BBC Website news

The official Doctor Who website is promising lots of extra goodies following the end of tomorrows episode. This is what they have to say.....

At 6.40pm on New Year's Day, The End of Time, Part Two begins and the Tenth Doctor's final adventure reaches an incredible finale. It's the end of an era and promises to be an unforgettable event.

Immediately after the episode finishes we'll have a wealth of exciting new material waiting for you right here! In a series of exclusive videos, David Tennant, Executive Producer and writer Russell T Davies and Executive Producer Julie Gardner tell us about The End of Time as well as the past five years, looking back on everything from guest stars to their first days on Doctor Who. There will be their last ever Big Questions, storyboards, a new Fact File, and a fantastic commentary with Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner. Plus a surprise or six!

But we'll also have tons of great stuff on the Eleventh Doctor! Get a sensational sneak peek of the new series and check out exclusive new videos... that's all on this site immediately after The End of Time, Part Two finishes.

I don't usually do this........ Part 2

Well, I suspect that we're all excited about tomorrows final episode for the 10th Doctor and following my predictions for the End of Time part 1 I have been guessing what might happen in the finale.... so here goes and lets see if I'm right tomorrow.......

Wilf will be exposed as a Timelord currently in Human form and protected by the Chameleon Arch
The Daleks will make an appearance as it is clear that some of the action takes place at the Time War
Davros will also make an appearance
There will be some kind of trial
There might (possibly) be some kind of reset so the 9th & 10th Doctors never existed (RTD & DT have always suggested that there might not actually be a regeneration in the way we're used to so this would explain things)
The Time War story arc is resolved so the new production team don't need to worry about explaining it.

As I said, this is all speculation and I could be wrong but you never know.....

And before I forget, wishing you all a fantastic New Year and all the best for 2010....

New End of Time trailer

Here is another one for you to enjoy...... not long now folks!!

Random Shameless Plug.....

Ok, so, it's been a bit quiet on here due to Christmas and such. There is so much going on that unless you're Combom it would be impossible to report on everything. Since this Blog is called "Not Just Dr Who" I thought I would take the opportunity to post one of my (very old) band video's......

Please tell me that you love it..... :-)

Trailer for the End of Time part 2

Here is the trailer for what looks like possibly the best Doctor Who episode ever. And, as before it is courtesy of the fantastic Blogtorwho.

So, it looks like I wasn't far off the mark....

Time Lords - they're back and it looks like they're bad too if this clip is anything to go by. Please don't watch it if you don't like SPOILERS as it does give some things away about next weeks episode.....

This clip is courtesy of the Blogtorwho site.

I don't usually do this........

....... Speculation, speculate, ponder and debate. What is going to happen in the End of Time? I have no idea however a few things have been on my mind recently, so do you mind me sharing them with you?

No? Well thank you. Here are my probably way off the mark theories and idea's.....

Firstly we should consider that Russell T is a fan and as such has written some big fan pleasing moments. Daleks Vs Cybermen, Sarah Jane being recognised by Davros, the Macra making an appearance to name but a few.

Now ask yourselves what he has not done and then consider that it his final story (for the time being anyway).

Also consider that he was the one who introduced the "Time War" plot - a thread which has never fully been explored or developed and, I assume the Moffatt will not want the job of explaining any of that.

So, does this mean the the final episodes will include some kind of Time War theme with a resurrection of Gallifrey (and the Time Lords), an appearance of Doctors 8 & 9 and (possibly) Tom Baker?

He has promised the biggest story ever and let's face it, it would need at least some of the above to top Stolen Earth / Journeys End and I for one can only assume that at least one of the above has to feature.....

I have just realised that this will seem really silly on New Years Day 2010..... Oh well, fingers crossed!!

TV Listing from 1963

Here is a scan from a TV guide way back in 1963..... and look what's on at 5:15pm....

Who would have thought that 46 years later we would all be reading about the same program being on at 6pm on Christmas Day 2009?

We are looking for people who would like to take part in our "Fan of the day" feature. If any of you want to take part then please email hello@notjustdrwho.co.uk and we will email back a list of questions. We look forward to hearing from you all.

And don't forget, if you're near enough them why not pop along to one of our meetings? Click here to find out more!!

End of Time Screening

SFX were at a recent screening of the first part of the End of Time and what they have to say is great. I'm sure that it is going to be the TV event of the year. There are no spoilers as such and you can read the full article here.

If Only...........

Here is a fan made edit of the scene with Davros and Sarah Jane from Journeys End. I's great to see the footage from Genesis inserted and surprisingly it works really well!!

It's the end.... but the moment has been prepared for

So, David is leaving soon and I for one am starting to feel quite sad about it. In some ways it takes me back to when Tom left all those years ago. You see, Tom was the only Doctor I had known in my short lifetime when he regenerated and for me it was a great loss. It will be the same for my son George who has grown up with David Tennant and I'm sure that he will be sad too on New Years day.

I don't think anyone can underestimate the contribution to not only Doctor Who but the best in British television David has made. So make sure you all raise a glass and toast him when the fateful day arrives and also have a drink to the new team. I just know they will be fantastic too....

In the meantime here is Tom leaving...... it still gets me even now....

K9 Regeneration

Just browsing again and I came across this clip from the new K9 series due to air next year. The first episode has had some fairly bad reviews however in my own opinion this clip is great and I can't wait to watch the whole episode and series.

Unrelated Rant...

I do apologise for this post having nothing to do with Doctor Who but it really has to be said......

I am amongst many things a fan of the Beatles and everything they have done to change the world with their music and songwriting brilliance. They have been inspirational icons to millions around the world for half a decade now.

So why then did Sir Paul McCartney feel the need to appear on the X Factor on Sunday night? This staged money making scam which passes for entertainment is the antithesis of everything the Beatles stood for, namely talent, real talent.

I will not take up any more room on this Blog with my rantings but if you want to read more then you can read a spot on article by clicking here.

I still love you Paul but please don't do it again......

fan of the day (or You've Been Roger'd)

Ok - this is probably the best interview ever for Fan of the Day as it features my 5 year old son George. George and I have a ritual when Doctor Who is on which involves him sitting on my knee and clinging on very tightly in the scary bits. Here is what George has to say.....

Sylvester McCoy in rock band video??

Leeds based rock band The Red Pill played a gig in November 2009 at a Doctor Who fans convention in Manchester, for which they'd specially recorded a limited edition CD, "Bigger on The Inside".

Sylvester McCoy bought a copy of the EP at the convention (which the band offered to give him for free, but he insisted on paying), and they were approached by a filmmaker who offered to film a video free of charge, for the Doctor Who themed track.

The band are quoted as saying "In fact, Sylvester McCoy - who played Doctor Who in the 1980s, bought a copy. We offered him a free copy but he insisted on paying for it - what a nice man! We're hoping that Sylvester will be able to appear in the video, alongside his old sidekick, Sophie Aldred."

So Who knows?! Maybe Sylv and Soph will be appearing shortly on MTV? To read the full article, clicky over here.

Alternate Empire - Fan Film

This has been kicking around for a while but I've never got round to posting it. Another attempt at fan made Doctor Who is presented for your viewing pleasure.........

Fan of the day (or You've Been Roger'd)

Ok then, this is a strange one as it features Roger Rogering himself (he wrote the questions). Still, it is bound to be fascinating. Remember, if anyone want's to feature on here then please get in touch. Roger, over to you for now.....

Name?

Roger Mitchell

Age?

33

Mental age?

14 and a bit

How long have you been coming to the group?

Year and a half

Who is your favourite Doctor (classic or new series) and why?

Sylvester McCoy, not the early stuff, hated the early stuff, but he started to grow on me with Season 25, and by Season 26 I thought "This is it, this is The Doctor for me.  Dark, mysterious, and manipulative"...  and then it got cancelled.  Go fig!

Who is your favourite Companion (classic or new series) and why?

Oooh, toughie...  Tegan Jovanka.  I'm always drawn to bolshy, loud mouth, no nonsense kinda people and Tegan is up there!  Followed closely by Donna Noble and Ace.

What is your favourite Who episode or story (classic or new series) and why?

Snakedance.  I was 6 when I first watched it, and I remember being terrified and the imagery of the story stayed with me for a very long time.  I love bleak, dark stories!  Closely followed by Blink and Curse of Fenric.

If you were a god what would you do to the world?

Denounce all organised religion as hokey, destroy any house of god*, and tell people just to be groovy and hang out.

* insert appropriate name of deity

Cake or biscuits?

Cake please!

What was the last book you read?

At My Mother's Knee... and Other Low Joints - Paul O'Grady

If I take a look inside your fridge what would I find?

Half a Kebab from last night, milk, butter, yoghurt, salad and meat.

When was the last time you laughed so hard that stuff came out of your nose and why?

Pam Ann's Manchester Layover in-flight move...  Terror at 41,000 ft.  Just because it was sooooo funny!  "Do you know Smack My Bitch Up, by The Prodigy?"

If you are given a chance to travel to the future or past, where would you go and why?

Interesting...  I'd have to go into the past, I want to witness those big historical moments.  Building of Stonehenge, the pyramids, the Wright brothers first fight, Hitler at Nuremburg (and odd one, but purely out of morbid curiosity) so much to choose from!!

If were to write your own Autobiography, what would be the title?

Sex, Drugs & Rock 'n' Roll... Everything you shouldn't do, but I did it anyway!

If you could have any super power, which would it be and why?

Laser eyes...  Granted, the first time anyone hacks me off there could be issues!

What did you want to be when you were 12 years old, and why?

Concorde pilot.  That aircraft fascinated me.  It was beautiful, a marvel of technology, and I would have loved to have got behind the controls.  Glad I didn't follow that dream, as all the years of training and working through the ranks at British Airways I would have never have got to fly her before she retired...  And what a broken dream that would have been!!

And finally, how would you react if you were suddenly transformed into a fish?

Bob... bob... bob... bob... bob... bob...

Christmas Spoilers - Beware

Fanatical Whovian has posted some interesting observations about what we know about the End of Time parts 1 & 2. I won't post any of it here as it could be seen as spoilerish. However if you want to know more then you can follow the link and click here.

Fan of the day (or You've Been Roger'd)

Right, back with the popular fan of the day slot. Today's star is Chris and I suspect this is going to be an interesting one....

Name?
Chris Hoyle

Age?
Unknown

Mental age?
19 give or take 100%

How long have you been coming to the group?
A few years

Who is your favourite Doctor (classic or new series) and why?
Tom Baker (by a small margin). Excellent characterisation, and just pips Jon Pertwee and David Tennant to the post in terms of most likeable attributes

Who is your favourite Companion (classic or new series) and why? Really don't know. Too difficult to call it one way or t'other. Devlin or Charlotte.

What is your favourite Who episode or story (classic or new series) and why?
The 'Family of Blood' 2-parter. Very original story, well-realised and produced.

If you were a god what would you do to the world?
1-Make it absolutely clear what 'the word of God' is, so there'd be no way fighting, persecution or genocide could be passed off as being a religious matter, and keep reminding those who might tend to forget.
2-Repair the damage humanity has done to the planet.
3-Failing that, make one final, grandiose appearance proving my existence, admit that proof denies faith, declare an end to religion and vanish in a puff of logic.

Cake or biscuits?
Go on, then.
Oh - choose? Cake.

What was the last book you read?
'The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists' by Robert Tressell

If I take a look inside your fridge what would I find?
Milk, Orange Juice, Grated Cheese, Salami, Celery, Humous, Mayonnaise, Relish, Goose Fat and custard.

When was the last time you laughed so hard that stuff came out of your nose and why?
I don't laugh stuff out of my nose, but I can laugh until I can hardly breathe. It was fairly recently but I honestly can't remember what it was about. Something rude.

If you are given a chance to travel to the future or past, where would you go and why?
The future, to see what it's like.

If you were to write your own Autobiography, what would be the title?
"A Brief History of Mine"

If you could have any super power, which would it be and why?
The ability to create time. I then might stand a remote chance of doing everything I want to do!!!

What did you want to be when you were 12 years old, and why?
For some unaccountable reason I wanted to be Bradley Hardacre (Timothy West's character in "Brass") or Arthur Daley.

And finally, how would you react if you were suddenly transformed into a fish?
After the initial shock and coming to terms with finding that I wasn't going to drown, I'd probably thoroughly enjoy discovering the new slant on my life before getting thoroughly depressed about all the stuff fish can't do. But maybe I wouldn't remember or have the capacity to realise.... discuss!!!!

John Simm to take on Hamlet

John Simm has been confirmed to take on the role of Hamlet at the Sheffield Crucible in September 2010 following a £15.8m redevelopment of the theatre.

The BBC News website confirms that Simm will be following in the footsteps of David Tennant, Jude Law, and Christopher Eccleston as the latest high profile actor to play the Danish prince.

End of Time clip - New

Comboms Blog has posted a new clip from the End of Time part one which was shown on TV this morning. At this rate (and with some technical sticking together) we will have the whole episode before too long!!

Tardis on top of a castle?

The Sun have reported on the Tardis being spotted on top of Caerphilly castle in Wales. How did it get there and what does this mean for the Doctor next year?

You can read the full article here.

End Of Time - Parties

Gallifrey News base has reported on a couple of parties being held on New Years day where you can go along and watch the End of Time part 2 on a big screen, in a pub, with beer. There is one in London and another a bit nearer for us in Manchester. Check out the full article here for more details.

Whatever happened to Shada?

The BBC News website has an interesting article around the mystery of why Shada was never completed.

Every Whovian knows the story around the 1979 strike at the BBC that caused the production to be halted, but it goes on to say that the BBC has faced industrial action like that in the past, and it never stopped them from remounting and completing unfinished serials before, so why this one?

It also takes a look at two other programs, The Professionals and Secret Army, that suffered the same fate during 1978 and 1979 and throws up some interesting theories!

To read the article, clicky here.
